My mom was the one who first introduced me to couponing, showed me how to clip coupons, and paid me for the money I saved (we may have bought things she didn’t really need but I was making money)! After having kids and less time on my hands I am less of a couponer and more of a “save money when you can” shopper (especially when it’s online).
When my husband and I first married and were living in a one-bedroom 800 square foot house, we saved by coming up with creative ways to pinch pennies. We certainly love the thrill of getting the best bang for our buck. I mean who doesn’t? That thrill was multiplied when we purchased our current home at auction.
What do you splurge on and what do you save on? We get this question a lot, and it’s completely one of those varies-by-every-scenario things! We may splurge on a pair of wireless headphones for our 3 year old because who doesn’t want wireless headphones to listen to music on the airplane, but then save on a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe we found for $5 at a garage sale. Browsing through the Save a la Mode website you will find posts with the header “SPLURGE” that are our personal favorite splurge items. There will also be posts with the header “HOT DEAL” that are prices we consider unbeatable! Of course the words “splurge” and “save” can have wildly different definitions according to the individual. I say save so you can splurge! 🙂
We always look for the best price on an item even if it means ordering it online and not having instant gratification! We avoid last minute purchases because those almost always end up being full price!
I enjoy tweaking recipes and baking anything sweet, drinking a good cup of coffee on the deck, sewing, being crafty or spending a quiet day at home with my family. I like to keep it simple, I am a spur of the moment type girl, I despise clutter, I like to laugh, and most of all, I love God and my family. And that pretty much sums it up.
